Michael Lopp:
The best stories, the ones we love, have a surprise ending. Since Steve returned to Apple, an essential part of the keynote was the anticipation of the unexpected, and that means aggressive and invasive secrecy. Not because they don’t want you to know, but because they want to tell you a great story.
Another great piece from Michael.
Is it safe to assume that ‘One more thing’ died with Steve? It’s all I could think about when they announced the Retina Macbook Pro.
Very safe. Not even Jobs used it as much as people think he did.
Actually he used it almost every year after he came back, but that’s besides the point. Remember when Phil Schiller gave his ‘one last thing’ back in 2009? Showmanship is – or at least should be – inherent to Apple’s keynotes. I don’t think Steve would have minded that the tradition stayed alive as long as it was done well.
Rands is a wonderful writer, but I wish he’d refrained from using the “Apple faithful” description.
