It’s like Google didn’t want the reviewers to actually get at the Nexus.

Funny how the reviewers are blaming themselves for this. Why aren’t they criticizing Google. What’s the point of double-taping the box?
The seals are there for one reason – to see if the box has been opened. They should be strong enough to withstand accidental tearing, but easy enough to be manually opened. Google must have thought that making it super hard to open will somehow prevent some kind of retail fraud? This is physical DRM to a T – it doesn’t prevent anything bad, and it only inconveniences customers.
Seriously? What a mess…
Exactly. I don’t want to be a typical Apple fanboy here – but their products are sealed with thin yet strong cellophane. It can be cut and removed easily but doesn’t easily get ripped in transit. And even then, the box just slides open. But it doesnt just fall out either – it slides out at an even speed. I know it sounds really stupid, but there is a great detail to even the packaging with Apple.
And even then, other things I have bought I thought had bad packaging. that looked terrible though!
Whatever. Unboxing videos are the new “Who gives a fuck?”
Very funny 🙂
Why didn’t anyone just take a knife, scissor or razor blade and slice down the corners of the box. After about 15 seconds of it not opening I would of started literally cutting corners.
Just a thought

Christmas it ain’t.
At least it’s not like some of the iPhone boxes, where the iPhone wasn’t attached to the plastic holder at all, and immediately fell out once you opened the box.
That’s nothing compared to how hard it can be to get everything back in the box when it’s time to return the review model!
To be honest though, I’ve had to shake the boxes of both my iPad3 and Macbook Pro really hard as well to get the inner box to slide out.
I faced the same issue with unboxing my iPad.
So, please be logical… fanboys.

I’ve opened two iPad and one iPhone box over the last couple years and all have opened a treat. You take the outside plastic off, gently hold the sides of the box and the bottom slowly slips out. Have never had a problem.
Are you a monkey without thumbs at all?
Man… all the usability engineers that work on packaging at Apple must just be having the best day ever right now.
And not a single one of the narcissistic fools thought to edit the minutes of futile fumbling out of their videos.
Cretins.
You don’t think the experience of opening the box vision wasn’t inspired by their attempts to open the box? I’m not debating the narcissistic fools part (or is it masochistic).
unboxing videos are rarely edited in such ways because they don’t want their to be any doubts about what is being unboxed. No cries of fake etc. We all see the box being unwrapped etc.
and in this case that lack of editing gives us the materials to see how unfun this was.
That said, I did laugh at a couple of folks that didn’t seem to consider that some tape might have been used. Or to use a blade to open it. a plastic, blunt edged collar stay isn’t going to cut any decent tape. a steak knife is better than that ‘tool’.
