The band doesn’t like the way the record company is paying them (or not paying them) for digital downloads, so they will re-record and bypass the company altogether.
Sounds like we’re in for an infinite string of “Greatest Hits” albums like some bands often do in order to meet a recording contract requirement.
Hrm. Devo did something similar for a few songs, and despite best efforts, it doesn’t sound the same (similar, but not interchangable). I bet this won’t either. 20 years of aging, different gear, etc. Whether fans care is something else.
Personally, I’m really looking forward to this. First, just to hear the music since I used to be a big fan and I keep them in my playlist rotation for running even today. Second, just to see someone give a giant FU to the recording industry who still doesn’t seem to “get it”.

Not trying to be crass, but I wonder how exact the pre-Hysteria stuff will sound with Rick Allen, or if they’ll skip those albums, etc.
