I understand and appreciate the arguments these designers and writers are trying to make, but as someone who teaches introductory courses on User Experience Design, this plead to call ourselves something else (or nothing at all) is problematic.
Every so often, someone comes along and decides to distinguish what he does from the rest of the field by finding new jargon to make it sound more special.
Sometimes it’s helpful, especially if you’re a consultant who’s being paid to tell a workgroup why they’re doing something wrong, and need a bit of ammunition to make your points heard. But sometimes it’s just jargon.
We see this in software development a lot too. Always lots of new terms and acronyms, but a fair chunk of them refer to already tried and true ideas.
Yep. It’s pretty much everywhere.
