If you don’t own an AirPrint-enabled printer, yet you want to print from your iPhone or iPad, you will need to install a 3rd-party app. But, which one? I found that with certain 3rd-party apps you get additional functionality and benefits beyond just being able to print from your iPhone.
AirPrint is one of Apple’s most abortive features. With super-limited printer support, almost no-one I know with an iOS device has even heard of this feature aside from geeks.
It should automatically be able to print to all Mac-shared printers of all makes and models and Apple should bake the support into iTunes or Bonjour for Windows so it becomes ubiquitous. There’s no technical reason it doesn’t, just a choice by Apple.
I’ve found Printopia to work really well.
