2. My gut tells me that the big camera companies – the ones from whom I actually would purchase a DSLR – would be resistant to creating an expensive product whose function is entirely dependent upon someone else’s product.  The first one who develops the intestinal fortitude to do so will make a killing.

3. Pro photographers like real, dedicated controls. This would be a toy for gadget lovers, but not pros.

I think Polaroid is on to something with it’s sc1630 “smart camera”.  I could see Android finding its niche being used for dedicated “single purpose” devices.  A smart camera with well-documented API’s (which would be Polaroid’s job) for tying into the camera’s sensors and functions could attract the great photo app developers that populate the iTunes App store. It just needs to be a camera first and foremost — everything else is just gravy.
