Foxconn will not sue ‘This American Life’

Foxconn said on Monday it had no plans to take legal action although the programme had hurt its reputation.

“Our corporate image has been totally ruined. The point is whatever media that cited the programme should not have reported it without confirming (with us),” said Simon Hsing, Foxconn’s spokesman.

  1. I can understand, but it sure would be nice if someone would sue the preverbual pants of of that low life lier Mike Daisey.

  2. They should.  I love TAL but it was just really, truly terrible reporting.  Essentially no fact-checking other than the word of an “artist”.

  3. On the one hand I do agree that some fact checking was warranted but not by checking with Foxconn. After all, they would have a vested interest in denying anything amiss.

And it isn’t as if all their clients walked off on them after the program aired. All 70 or so companies are probably still doing business with them. The only group that might not do business with them is consumers and they don’t deal in that world anyway.

  4. A sound economic decision.  They would’ve had a bear of a time proving damages, and even if they won, how much could they collect from a nonprofit radio show, or Daisey the bullshit artist?
