Dell wants to challenge Apple in the tablet market

Reuters:

As Apple’s third-generation iPad went on sale on Friday, accompanied by the now traditional scenes of fans queuing round the block , Dell’s chief commercial officer Steve Felice said the tablet market was still wide open.

I kid you not, I actually laughed out loud reading this. How many times does Apple have to lay the smackdown on Dell before they finally go away.

  1. The tablet market is “still wide open” in the sense that billions of people still don’t have iPads.

  2. Dell couldn’t even sell iPods back in the day when Apple allowed them to. Then they gave up on their iPhone competing phone(s) rather quickly. Now they want to compete with the iPad?

I think they should sell Dell for spare parts and give the money back to the shareholders!

  3. The tablet market IS still wide open, but it’s being crushed by the iPad market.

  4. Dell just wants some attention (cheap ads). Maybe this is a good way to get the word out -“Dell is still in the computer business.we’re going to develop our own slate [ultrabook, mini PC, phone, Mp3] … like Apple.”
