“Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased,” Apple said in a statement. “Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date.”
So much for the people that said it wouldn’t sell.
Same old story. All over again.
I’m sure the ratcheted down the production lines to create an artificial shortage and garner headlines, which is way more important than making real money on sales.
yeah right, as if the real numbers weren’t blowing off all other OEM and as if they were not doing TONS of money
According to a recent study, men are pre-ordering them not to attract women, but to fend off other males.
Did people really say it wouldn’t sell?
Remember that they are releasing it in way more countries early in the process than ever before. On the other hand, supposedly they’ve been stocking up on the screens for 4+ months to make sure they could come out of the box quickly.
Bottom line is why would anyone expect it not to sell well if they understand the iPad’s attraction to begin with. What were the three complaints about the previous iPad?
1. crappy camera
2. no Retina display
3. no LTE
So they addressed all three, kept the battery life despite the drastic power drain of the Retina display, and through in Bluetooth 4.0 as a sweetener.
The real question will be answered when they’re in the stores on Friday and beyond and people can view them side by side with the iPad 2. If the screen is compelling it’s going to be a huge seller. If the screen is simply just better but not “luscious” it will sell ok enough but the stock will take a bit of a beating down to the $450 range.
A few Apple-hating pundits said there was nothing compelling and it would only sell to “Apple fanboys.”
This isn’t good news for us – if they stay this popular, we’ll never find one to buy.
