Sony music suffered its second major security breach in a year, with thieves targeting songs and unreleased material by the superstar singer.
It’s alleged they downloaded more than 50,000 music files, worth £160million, in the biggest ever cyber attack on a music company.
Has Sony ever heard of security?
I would think the first (and most obvious) line of defense would be to not have those files on a computer accessible over the Internet. Now that the Beatles catalog has been digitized into Pro Tools I wonder if those files are similarly vulnerable. I would bet not.
Also, the word “stolen” seems imprecise. To me, that connotes that Sony is no longer in possession of the property. It’s not like Sony is now unable to use that material. I think “illegally copied” would be more accurate. (I know it was The Sun’s word–not yours.)
