Samsung admits its tablet are a flop

Samsung Electronics admitted that its attempt to breach the tablet market has largely been a flop, with one executive offering a sobering summary of its performance.

“Honestly, we’re not doing very well in the tablet market,” Hankil Yoon, a product strategy executive for Samsung.

So, to boost sales you release a stylus?

  1. The Samsung Note is a pretty good idea. In order to survive in the tablet market, vendors must stay away from Apple. We all have seen what happens trying to compete directly with the iPad. Only tablet that has gained traction is the Fire, only because of its cheap price which AMZN can offer since it doesn’t mind losing money on the hardware.  The Note offers something different. Phone/Tablet hybrid. Two devices in one. And heck, throw in a stylus! Most people probably think a phone with a massive screen sucks, and a tablet with a tiny screen sucks, but some might not mind the trade off to only have to buy one device and one service plan. It’s something different. A niche yes, but Samsung will probably not face any competition there.

  2. given their sales record to say anything else would be showing their idiocy. So they just admit that their previous versions didn’t go over so well so they are canning those and trying something different (and not so iPad inspired).

time will tell if the Note does any better.
