Netflix finally comes out and says No to a PlayBook app, much to the chagrin of the PlayBook user community who seemed to assume that with the release of PlayBook OS 2 all the missing apps would automagically appear within minutes of the update from RIM.
Not a big surprise really.
It may not bring them revenue directly but how can it hurt to have an app that can possibly bring you more customers . With the way things are going for Netflix right now I would think they’d do whatever it takes to keep their customers happy.
Spending money developing a PlayBook app doesn’t make sense just to keep five customers happy.
At an average of $200k for an enterprise level app. Maybe they will get 100 new customers x $10 a month = $1000 a month or $12,000 a year. App will have a one year lifespan with a net loss of $188.000. I am being generous on the 100 new customers.
One has to wonder how long it will be before Skype and Amazon come along and refuse to create their PlayBook apps, crushing the hopes of dozens once and for all!

all joking aside I thought that the Playbook was going to include Android support (emulator or such) so wouldn’t that cover this issue
Amazon I suspect already has. After all they would rather that the anti iPad folks buy the Fire
Agreed, I pretty much figured that once the Fire made an appearance it pretty much spelled the end of any potential Kindle app for the PlayBook.
They included some sort of Android emulator in the PlayBook OS, but developers still have to port their apps and then offer them through AppWorld to take advantage of it. Doesn’t seem like there’s been a lot of uptake in that regard.
