Matt Gemmell:
Let me make this perfectly clear: piracy is your own fault.
You’ve got the whole situation almost exactly backwards.
There’s so many great quotes that I could have used from Matt’s story, but this sums it up nicely for me.

Herp a derp, Jim Dalrymptle, herp a derp.
The post title “The Piracy Threshold” links to the article.
Sorry folks, the link is fixed
I fully support what Matt wrote.
I only add, that in 99% of cases, people who bought DRM-ed game or app are fucked vs people using “pirated versions”. Those “legal” copies suffer: worse performance, periods of unavailability of authorization servers, must pay for damaged media (because they could not make a backup copy and then use it instead of original media) etc.
Exactly. I watched a DVD (from Netflix) with the family last night. A movie I enjoyed enough to own. But I was *forced* to watch 5 minutes of trailers for idiotic movies I have no interest in (“Free Willie: Escape from Pirate Cove”, they really made that?).
What is the chance I will now buy that DVD? Zero. The movie industry lost a sale.
Great argument. For me the following quote is key: “Make it available to everyone, worldwide, at the same time.”
