The push for new Internet surveillance capabilities goes back to 1999, when government officials began crafting proposals to institute new surveillance technologies within Canadian networks along with additional legal powers to access surveillance and subscriber information.
I voted for Harper because, let’s be honest, the other options were pretty useless. But I didn’t vote for this shit.
Hopefully we can pull a Stop Sopa type thing up here and get them to back down, this is over the top even for the Tories.

No, you totally did. Any number of people could have told you that a government that elevates Stockwell Day and Vic Toews to cabinet-level positions would crap on civil liberties.
If you voted for Harper, but didn’t see this coming, you voted blindly.
I disagree with the notion that voting for a party at one point in time automatically means you support any and all future legislation they bring forward. I don’t agree with this particular piece of legislation, but I’d still rather have Harper in charge as opposed to the effectively useless alternatives. Hopefully public pressure can convince them to alter some of the more controversial points.
To each their own of course. Not going to get into a political debate in the comments section.
