I laughed when I saw that ad, why would Samsung think that is a good thing?

Don’t get me wrong. This is nothing personal. Got my first Mac in 1994 (PowerBook 165) and never looked back. Even completed a pilgrimage to Infinite Loop.
I used to have a Palm. Now I just love my iPhone. But … I actually kind of miss the stylus. And I believe I made fewer mistakes with graffiti text entry.
They could throw $10 mln from a building and have better advertisement!
The commercial really was over the top.
I’d describe that product as, “Big enough for a finger, but comes with a stylus”.

You can get a stylus for the iPhone of you really want one. I am pretty sure there are apps for handwriting recognition too.

Yet again another tech commercial that doesn’t actually show what it does. It’s basically a glorified musical production piece. A stylus isn’t anything new (all touch screens can use them). This commercial shows no compelling reason why I’d want to buy one.
Find me a woman with fingernails, and I’ll find you someone who understands the benefit of a stylus for certain tasks.
Not trying to defend, but simply think their way. I am sure this Note was released only for the commercial and there won’t be follow ups with a stylus. The point is not that the stylus is better, but the different thinking, i.e. don’t think what you’re being told that the “stylus is a no-no”, but think free because we give you one so you can decide whether to use one or throw it out.
But the commercial itself is a parody on the “Hi, I am the Mac” commercials Apple was doing couple of years ago. So they sort of didn’t copy the lack of stylus from the iPhone, but they copied their idea of the ads. Copydogs.
jpm, thanks, I have looked into the matter and styli have to be finger-like (too thick) and text input Apps are restricted.
Yeah, I think that I’ve seen at least 5 pens for drawing and writing made specifically for iDevices in the last year. All of them come with a free or low cost app.

Even then, I would hate it, to take that stylus everytime to do something. Stylus sucks.

That’s not true. There are folks that do want a stylus and even Steve knew that, which is why you could always use one with the iPhone etc.
but what folks don’t want, and Steve got this also, is to be SOL when they lose that stylus and there’s no other way to input into your phone, PDA, whatever
