Considering people died and were severely injured in the ship accident, I find this cartoon in extremely poor taste.
Did this guy use the World Trade Center in a humor cartoon as well?
I didn’t put the two together. I don’t think that’s what he was getting at.
He absolutely is. He’s making fun of the fact that the captain of that ship got off the boat before the passengers did – leaving other crew members to direct the evacuation.
He’s basically saying the RIM “captains” are getting out of the sinking ship and handing over the reigns to a crew member.
I get the humor, and the fact that it’s in the news means lots of people will “get” the idea. I just think that it’s in poor taste when they’re still searching for bodies of missing passengers, etc.
What if it’s simply meant as angry satire? Does the fact that it’s a cartoon make it automatically frivolous?
It’s called satire, there is no link with what happened in Italy. Chill the @#$%! out
Oh yay. The Culture of Perpetual Outrage visits the Loop.
I don’t mean to be dismissive of your concerns, but… Actually yes, I am entirely dismissive of your concerns. Does the cartoon depict RIM employees drowning or jumping to their deaths, their heads bashed against the rocks? Ship analogies are routinely used when talking about the performance of companies. Obviously, the cartoonist is referencing the fairly obvious situation of a ship deliberately grounded by its captain(s). Your over sensitivity is nothing more than a form of outrage pareidolia.
Some of the most profound humor is in extremely poor taste. Go watch Sam Kinnison’s old routine about the Ethiopians again. I bet you laugh. (Or do a web search for “Orange Jews”. I’m a Jew, through and through, but I couldn’t keep a straight face at that one…)
