Gruber vs. Lyons

Really? This is where Dan Lyons wants to go? That Samsung doesn’t copy Apple? That “Apple fanboys” simply claim that they do as a knee-jerk response to Samsung’s undeniable success in the smartphone market?

It’s not even a fair fight.

  1. Agreed. He was great and funny as Fake Steve Jobs but after that he seemed to go off the deep end when it came to Apple hate, and seems to always be wrong.

  2. Lyons longs for the days where he was influential as Fake Steve Jobs. Now he just gets hits the old fashioned way, using hyperbole and standard attacks on Apple supporters. I honestly don’t know where Lyons was getting the material for Fake Steve Jobs, because Real Dan Lyons has none of the wit, humor or subtlety evident in the FSJ writing. Now it’s just bitterness and hit whoring,

Lyons, unlike paid hit whores/quote machines like Enderle and Thurrott, doesn’t strike me as a mercenary. He seems genuinely pissed off that Apple is successful and finds so much support amongst consumers.

  3. I’m not sure if it’s a fair fight. But you certainly won’t get a fair commentary of whatever it is on here.

  4. This is the comment of the day.
Lyons is so pathetically desperate in his quest to become relevant and popular again, it’s not even funny anymore.

Which in turn makes me think he might’ve actually meant all the things he said as Fake Steve Jobs.

That’s an excellent point. I knew Dan was FSJ and, when he was outted, I looked forward to his writing as Dan Lyons. But it has *none* of the flair of FSJ. It’s really odd.

  6. I can’t help but think you are right. He dropped the Fake Steve thing ‘out of respect’ but most folks don’t know his real name so he has to do something to get attention
