Robbers steal $1.7 million worth of PlayBooks

Police are searching for someone who stole a semtrailer filled with $1.7 million worth of BlackBerry PlayBooks.

These are either the stupidest robbers ever, or more likely, RIM’s co-CEOs took a road trip. It is interesting to note that the truck was headed back to RIM’s headquarters in Ontario. Sounds like a truckload of returns to me.

Sounds like an insurance scam to me.

Then the truck reappears on tuesday, with a note saying “sorry bout that.  We thought these were ipads”

I said it on Twitter, I’ll say it again over here:
    Good luck fencing those things.

I certainly hope their insurance pays RIM what these units are worth.

I instantly thought the same thing.  The conspirator inside me thinks management paid some lowbie goons to lift the truck so they can pocket the insurance value.  The insurance claim is probably a multiple of what the value inside the trailer.

From the thief’s perspective, I figure the Playbooks will be dumped along the side of some backroad because the trailer itself has more market value…

That’s gotta be worth at least $2,000.
