Matt Drance:
Intuit and AT&T have formed what Engadget calls “an unholy alliance” to create a poor, twenty-two-months-late ripoff of Square’s credit card reader for mobile devices. Go ahead and watch the video on Engadget’s site, and compare it with the experience that Square debuted two Januaries ago. Intuit and AT&T knew exactly what they had to rip off, had almost two years to do it, and still laid an egg.
Worst still is that their reader doesn’t like to work. I have both Inuits service and square’s.. Inuits response to a non functioning reader is that you can just key the card data and pay the higher fees.
Square may have a flimsy reader but it works and their software is so user friendly compared to the nutrition offering.
Well, Square now seems to have the funds necessary to kick them squarely in the balls lawsuit-wise, amirite?
I work on the GoPayment team here at Intuit and saw your post. To the contrary, GoPayment was launched before Square. Here’s the link to the press release that came out in May 2009: http://about.intuit.com/about_intuit/press_room/press_release/articles/2009/IntuitGoPaymentGetsSmallBusinessesPaid.html. Square launched in December 2009. Just wanted to make sure you had the facts.
Just love when reporters rip away without the correct info…..confirming that media is more fantasy than fact
