RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis announced BBX at the Devcon 2011 keynote. He states that it brings together the best of BlackBerry and the best of QNX into one amazing OS. He goes on to explain that the QNX architecture is safe by design without compromising on real time, multi-core performance.
Does this mean that none of RIM’s operating systems will do email and calendaring now?
Oh and the other big news from the keynote:

Well now, that’s something that will certainly spur sales.
So BBX is the best of QNX and Blackberry, eh? Is that anything like when an elephant makes love to a pig?
So starved for any novelty Mike would probably throw a lavish soirée after RIM’s food services introduce rice pudding with 5 golden raisins.
Oh, get off your high horse. Apple introduces a new OS every 20 mins. Looks like a solid improvement for RIM.
If by every 20mins you mean once then sure….
The difference being that iOS updates can actually run on earlier hardware, whereas BBOS7 won’t run on OS6 devices, BBX won’t run on OS7 devices, so yeah looking good.
And when you say “every 20 minutes” I’ll assume you mean “annually”. RIM has had (or announced) 3 in the past 12 months, none of which are compatible with the others.
Er..I count classic Mac OS, OS X and iOS. You can pad the numbers a bit if you count operating systems for non-iOS iPods I guess. But not much.
