Phil Hornshaw:
Like just about everyone else in the tech world, I didn’t expect the iPhone 4S to be nearly as popular as it is…
No, only people that believed the rumors thought it would be a disappointment. Like me, everyone else that was at the event thought it would be successful. Don’t speak for the rest of us in the tech world because you were wrong.
So, that’s the justification line now? “Everybody” was thinking the same thing, so I’m off the hook because I was just as wrong as “everybody” else…wow.
“Like many other uninformed tech writers…” There. Fixed it.
I’m curious. He mentions the Christmas season and how not just the 4S but also the 4 and the 3GS would make great gifts. I think the sweet spot is the 4, actually, for gift-giving. We all know now how popular the 4S is right off the bat, but how are supplies of the 4?
So it is okay that ‘everyone’ was wrong.
Sorry but not everyone was wrong. I am sure that I was not the only one that felt that the 4S was going to sell well.
The biggest failure was people that believed what Al Gore said. He blatantly implied that multiple phones were being launched and in true politician style, while the world calls it a single phone there are multiple models of the phone, the 16,32 and 64 Gb models. I would seriously take his past and future statements about anything as dubious, he has the ability to warp the facts to fit his reality and this was a prime example.
Blogs such as your blog and TipB and the others made the assumption on the basis that people would be upset with the phone not meeting the expections instilled by their circulation of rumors.
The people that were most disappointed were the people that held the rumors to the gold standard but when you look at the phone in the cold light of day and look at in on neutral terms it is a good phone.
Sure people are going to be slightly disappointed with the lack of the LTE radio, but the addition of HSPA+ is not going to impact sales on Verizon Dramatically.
Then there are the apple fan’s that will purchase the phone just to have the phone.
There is also the droves of poor Blackberry owners that have are at the end of their tether with that last outage.
There are also the poor devils that have tried using Android devices and came to the realization that the OS is rarely updated, some updates cause more issues that they fix and you are not guaranteed that an app will work on one device but not others.
Everyone knows that Apple devices just work.
That is why I use Apple iPhone and Apple iPad! THEY JUST WORK.
When we start switching over hardware it will be goodbye Dell and hello Apple because I am sick of running Windows and it having issues.
So the iPhone 4S is getting the sales that most normal people anticipated and you are DISMAYED?????
Give me strength!
Bet the supplies of the iPhone 4 are good. I am sure that they have been working on building stock of the 8Gb model on the fly over since the launch of the Verizon CDMA model. I am sure that it was planned back then to launch the 8Gb model.
I’m glad that Apple keeps making these huge failures. 😉
It gets better. Many of the blogtards who were so “disappointed” with the 4S are trying use the standard stock-drop-after-announcement dip of Apple’s stock as supporting evidence of their position that the 4S was underwhelming. As if the bloggers and the market meant “everyone” was disappointed.
Take it easy on Phil Hornshaw, he at least admitted he was wrong. From my experience, people in the public light seem to resist admitting they were wrong, so this was a breath of fresh air.
