∞ MG Siegler on the TechCrunch brouhaha

MG:

That’s why Paul’s post is dangerous. He’s shining the spotlight on something, but he’s missing the mark. There is exactly one person to blame for all of this — and her name is not Erick.

  1. MG: Why do we care?  Why do we care about the implications?  Why do we care who’s fault it is?  Why do we care to read all of the prima donna blather?  Answer to all of that: I’m wasting my time typing this…

  2. Yeah, that’s funny. Arrington is an unethical douchebag who blatantly peddles his influence for money or notoriety, wanted to use his bully pulpit to funnel cash to his pet causes, posts articles that are just this side of libel, and is just an all around slimy character, but it’s Huffington herself who is to blame. Granted AOL and Huffington herself may have just woken up to the walking ethics violation that is Mike Arrington, but what really weirds me out is the sycophantic behaviour of Arrington’s supporters. They seem incapable of understanding what it is that Arrington does.

  3. To be fair, he wasn’t just referring to the recent drama involving Arrington. He was referring to the fact that TechCrunch has been on a downward slide ever since Arianna was put in charge of it, and for that, I think his assessment is correct. Arrington, as much as we don’t like him, commanded a ship that stayed upright for a number of years (even if it was going in the wrong direction a lot of the time), but it’s only since Arianna was put in charge that the ship has started to capsize.
