Love the background photo. Stole the split keyboard from iOS 5.
iOS 5 and its split-keyboard was demo’ed at around the same time as Windows 8’s one was (Windows 8 was a week or two before). I think it’s safe to assume they were developed concurrently.
Ugly as shit
Agreed. I recall seeing MS demo the split screen keyboard, then Apple doing the same just days later. A logical development.

What stands out for me is that Windows 8 still embraces the concept of a file system. Note the ‘go up’ option on the ‘Files’ screenshot.
Apple and Microsoft clearly have very different views on what the future of computing looks like.
Interesting concept. I’d like to see Joe Anybody give this a spin.
Why does that 5th screen remind me of a cash register at McDonald’s?
It’s so creepy. Make it go away.
It doesn’t look bad, and I’m sure users will be able to replace the background. But it looks like they’re holding onto a file system that will only matter to hardware nerds.
Does it make sense to still call it “Windows” when there aren’t any?

The Windows 8 preview is exactly what everyone expected.
Microsoft follows Apple and builds monstrous legacy support around that.
Let the MS platform folk do their ‘thing.’ They’re welcome to it. I want no part of it.
Microsoft should hire some people with some sort of graphics background…maybe someone that knows something about design and maybe fonts. Just a thought.
The Windows management team won’t allow it to be called anything else. They think the name still has consumer loyalty.
Green ?

Is “Start” where you “stop” here as well?
