Sprint, the third-largest U.S. wireless carrier, plans to begin selling the device in mid-October under a deal with Apple for the next model, the iPhone 5, said the people, who wouldn’t be identified because the plans aren’t public. Becoming the country’s only operator to offer the device with unlimited data service for a flat fee may help Sprint draw customers from AT&T and Verizon Wireless, which already carry the phone, they said.
I guess the question then becomes how soon until the unlimited data rug is pulled out from beneath all their new customers?
They’ll pull the plug when the network is becoming overloaded. My guess is they have so few subscribers they’ll stick with it for a long time as it’s a decent way to draw from other companies.
if this had happened a year ago I’d glady have stuck with Sprint, they worked fine for my blackberry. But AT&T hasn’t screwed me over yet (I joined after they changed their plans so I knew what I was in for.) and haven’t come close to exceeding 2G plan yet.
Dammit. What I want to know is when is T-Mobile going to get the iPhone…
Sprint owns Virgin Mobile. VIrgin sold an “unlimited data” Virgin Mobile MiFi, then a few months later, after many many hardware purchases, yanked the rug from under all their users and changed to a 5gb quota.
Sprint has a proven track-record, this “unlimited data” offer will be nothing but another bait and switch BS move to build an initial customer base. The public is gullible, the tactic is unregulated, and it worked before, why shouldn’t they try it again.
Virgin Mobile also has pay-as-you-go options for their phones, which gives me a little bit of hope that either Sprint or VM might consider making the iPhone available in this way, unlimited data trickery notwithstanding.
I’d love to trade up, assuming it was affordable.
What’s the point of having sprint unlimited when I can’t even get decent service where I live???
Hopefully, the point is that your area has other carriers available who are willing to compete for your business.
so….Virgin Mobilie is Sprint? eh? What’s with the malice against sprint? I mean, don’t they have the cheapest and ONLY all you can eat plan right now?
If they change it, yell at them. But don’t complain about WHAT they MIGHT do. And why are you equating virgin mobile and sprint? Their are a bunch of differences between the revenue models of these companies–too boring to get into. Dude. virgin’s an mvno. Get over it.
