Harry McCracken’s exposure to Sony’s new Android tablets at IFA in Berlin was brief and (as he readily admits) incomplete, but he offers an honest an insightful appraisal about what Sony got right with its new devices.

If only they could only make them foldable via some sort of hinge and put a series of buttons on one half, perhaps each button identified by a letter of the alphabet or some other glyph that would make typing easier. They could aim it at the lap bearing user.

Luminous Landscape reviews the Sony S Tablet here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/sony_s_tablet.shtml and concludes that it ain’t up to snuff. Pity. I *want* competition for the iPad!
Sony’s designs are top notch, when they’re not done for generic “you will be replaced in three weeks” products.
Being recognised as “not generic” is maybe the best thing that can happen to any of Apple’s competitors right now.
I must admit that I’m intrigued by the Tablet P (folding model). One way to compete is to build devices that focus on key features instead of trying to do everything. I could easily see one of the screens being used as a full sized keyboard / input display while the other screen shows the content being manipulated.
Perhaps Sony has a chance in the “Tablet Age.”

Which Sony would that be? The one that makes squeaky laptops, or the one that no longer manufactures its own televisions?
