I was talking to a friend today about my Taylor guitar and after raving about how good it is, he’s going to get one. This is the best acoustic guitar I’ve ever played.

Taylor is a good manufacturer. Excellent woods, good craftsmanship and unique manufacturing methods that have created instruments that are consistent in quality. And given the fact that they are privately held and have no debt I am sure you will continue to see plenty of innovation – as long as they stay away from electrics until they get their act together. Ugh.
But there are other acoustic makers, too, who are in the same price league as Taylor who make superb if not superior instruments: Santa Cruz, Breedlove, Manzer, Greenfield (my personal lust at the moment) and Stonebridge. There are dozens of others. If you live in the Bay Area and want to check out some outrageous acoustics you should visit Gryphon Guitars in Palo Alto or Guitar Solo in SF near the ball park.
Taylor is nice for a factory guitar, but it makes you seem about as guitar savvy as someone posting “My favorite car, the Chevy Aveo”. Ever heard of Collings? Froggy Bottom? Stefan Sobell? Jeff Traugott? Boaz Elkayam? Fred Carlson? Ok those last couple are pretty out there, but that is just the tip of an iceberg that seems to have drifted under your titanic article.

Ah, a gear snob!
