Yep.
Perhaps my biggest gripe with Windows. I’ve used it long enough that I realize for most tasks I want to do there is some way to do it. I try not to get hung up on the opaqueness or obfuscation of the task…I’m willing to chalk that up to my intimate familiarity with the way to do the task on OS X and my comparative lack of experience on Windows.
But when I’m using my work laptop at home, where I have a private wifi network with SSID broadcasting turned off…torture. Fortunately once it’s set up my laptop remembers the network…but if someone else is visiting and wants to use it, or when I get issued a new work computer…more torture. Connecting to a wifi network, even a private one, should be one of the most discoverable commands in the OS.

First off, why in hell would you go through the control panel to find a wireless network in windows? All you have to do its double left click the wireless icon by the clock in Win XP, the same in 7. They’ve got this guide (if it’s even real) way too involved and in settings that the average user would not use.

Just sillyness. Obviously the person who made this has no idea how to use Windows. Wow, ha.
Because the task tray icon doesn’t always work. I’ve seen people have to go to the “long” settings plenty of times.
Some laptops use vendor supplied WiFi task bar notifications and they don’t work consistently. Often the only way to properly —idiot proof— set up a WiF connection is through the control panel.
It’s dauntingly funny. Just imagine how nice is was to switch from using a Cisco supplied VPN client on Windows and OS X 10.5, to the built-in one in 10.6?
Its just an attempt to make windows look bad. Never mind that you can connect to a wireless network in McDonalds in only two steps in windows. People like Macs because they are more stable. They are more stable because they have less of a market share than windows and less capatible with 3rd party than windows but don’t look now…..viruses are getting designed to infect Macs. Oh what are the Mac lovers going to do now….oh wait I almost forgot….make it look comparitively far more daunting to connect to a McDonald’s wifi network. hehe

macs are not more stable than windows. I experience mac crash softwares just as much as windows does. Unfortunately, I’m using macs at work and windows at home for games. So the mac crashing on me sure makes for a worse day. There had always ben viruses for mac, only they were designed by experts to siphon financial & personal information as most mac user have generally more income than pc owners, so they sit there un-noticed. While most pc viruses (then) were written by hobbyists, malicious and destructive so you usually know you have one right away.
Macs are way more stable than crappy windows software. The only thing windows has over macs is the hardware, but macs dont need all that amazing hardware to run the software amazingly! Where as windows needs a lot of good hardware to run there software! I have had a mac for 4 years, not a single crash! Windows since I was a kid, crashes almost monthly. Microsoft is ignorant of there customers, ex I have a folder that is read only(windows automatically sets it as that at really random times) you can never change it back from read only to read/write! it gets flipping annoying to have to reinstall windows 7 all the time to fix this ridiculously simple, simple problem, but does Microsof do it???? NO OF COURSE NOT!

This is all tomfoolery. Bah! I logged in to a McDonald’s WiFi network, for the first time, this morning on a Windows laptop AND my Android phone – couldn’t be easier.
Step 1: Open up a browser on your device. (A McDonald’s hosted ‘Wayport Access’ website is displayed)
Step 2: Accept the Terms of Service
Step 3: Browse the web for free.
That handy-dandy how-to guide is ridiculous.
As it stands, I use Macs at work (an iMac Intel, and an iMac G5) and BOTH crash more often than my $400 Dell laptop that I use at home for personal and small-business use. Go figure. (And don’t even get me started on the number of iTunes updates I have had to install on the work Macs… It seems like an update is released every other week for crying out loud!)
