TMZ:
A press release from the Metropolitan Police, which doesn’t specifically name Winehouse, says:
“Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.
On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Too bad.
So sad… Such a waste.
I find myself having a very difficult time feeling sorry for people who have the world at their feet, with all the money they’ll ever need, who then proceed to drug/drink themselves to death.
proof that these things are not what you need to be happy…
Winehouse had problems with addiction before she ever found fame. Having previously lived with a physically dependant alcoholic myself for many years I can tell you that money doesn’t factor.
Having compassion for Winehouse’s family, friends, and fans, and for her when she was alive, is different from your more dismissive “feeling sorry for”. Certainly, she bears ultimate responsibility for her dissipative behavior that likely led to her death. But the roots of such behavior are often very complex; as hard as it was for those who loved her to put up with her, just imagine how much harder it must have been to BE her – as you say with “the world at [her] feet” and still not able to control those demons. A tragedy in the classic sense of the word…
