The conversations weren’t explicitly aimed at recruiting a new chief executive and were more of an informal exploration of the company’s options, said these people. The directors don’t appear to have been acting on behalf of the full board, some of these people said. Apple has seven directors, including Mr. Jobs.
It is also unclear whether Mr. Jobs was aware. In response to questions from The Wall Street Journal about the discussions, Mr. Jobs said Monday in an email, “I think it’s hogwash.”

I find it hard to believe the board doesn’t know whom will succeed Jobs.
He already has.
Just wait, the term “acting” will slowly start to be left off of mentions of Tim Cook and Jobs will never return from his medical leave and will end up as a member of the board and a consultant within the next year and no one will notice the difference
I agree with Steve- “Hogwash.” From the beginning, even now- that’s what all the rumors and speculation has been. But that’s he way the world is today- even when Steve finally does leave- hopefully many, many years from now, the rumors will begin that he’s coming out of retirement. Or returning from the grave.
