Reports started circulating earlier today that Apple CEO Steve Jobs would make an appearance at the company’s iPad 2 event on Wednesday.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]Citing “several sources close to the situation,” AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher wrote this afternoon that Jobs is “definitely considering” an appearance tomorrow. The appearance is not confirmed, which leaves those attending with the same amount of hope that they had yesterday.
Reports surfaced on Monday that the iPad 2 would be available almost immediately after its introduction on Tuesday, further squashing rumors that the device would be delayed until June.
The Loop’s Peter Cohen was at the Yerba Buena Center yesterday and snapped a picture of workers putting on the finishing touches for the event.

Jobs should attend and do one of those two things, or both:
1. Sit down in the first row and watch the event, thus strengthening the position of the person presenting.
2. Get up on stage at the beginning of the event, say
then he should flip the bird.

If there’s facetime available on the new iPad as everyone suspects, wouldn’t this be the perfect way to bring him to Yerba Buena Center from the safety and convenience of his underground lair?
No, I don’t think they do. It would surprise me to no end, if Jobs hadn’t slowly instilled the same caution, the eye for good design and necessity, into the people working with him day after day.
Yes, the man has nigh-impeccable instincts, but Apple isn’t a one man show and they will continue to be great even without him.
