∞ QuarkXPress 9 focuses on digital publishing

Quark on Wednesday introduced QuarkXPress 9, a major upgrade to its flagship desktop publishing software for Mac OS X and Windows. It’s priced at $799; upgrades from QuarkXPress 7 and 8 cost $299. QuarkXPress 9 ships in April.

Blio eReader support enables QuarkXPress users to repurpose content for e-book distribution on iOS, Android and Silverlight. QuarkXPress 9 also now includes export support for ePUB, the open e-book standard supported by devices like iPads (via iBooks), Barnes & Noble Nook and Amazon Kindle.

New features in QuarkXPress 9 to appeal to designers include new Conditional Styles, which lets you automatically style content based on rules; MS Word-compatible bullets and numbering; a Collouts feature that moves boxes and groups automatically with text; a “ShapeMaker” wizard; grid-based image import and image captioning; and more.

  1. Quark is taking longer to get bought out and eventually die off than any other “nowhere to go but down” tech company I’ve ever seen (other than maybe Yahoo)

  2. What a bunch of silly comments. Most of the college and grade school books and magazines you grew up with were made in Quark and they have real technology as opposed to Yahoo which is like Craigslist deluxe. You all must just love monopolies and inbred Adobe thinking and can’t possibly imagine anything greater than what you’ve been spoon fed. Every Adobe-based design is starting to look the same and very dead like the same bevels and drop shadows and typography everywhere…BOOOORRRING! Viva la differance and I for one hopes Quark teaches you the same lesson Apple taught Microsoft when everybody said the same thing in 1999….Apple is dead!
