There can be no doubt that Apple has a succession plan in place for Steve Jobs’ retirement, whenever that may be.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]However, Apple has kept that plan a secret from the public. A shareholder proposal debated today at the shareholder meeting in Cupertino, Calif. would have forced Apple to reveal its internal plans.
News from the shareholder meeting is starting to filter in and according to World of Apple, the proposal has been defeated. This basically means that Apple can continue on as it has and will not be required to share its plans.
Another proposal that “would allow shareholders to block the election of directors who run unopposed by withholding their votes,” has also been defeated.
So a majority of shareholders realized it may not be competitive business practice to reveal the succession plan to the public. Sort of make sense when you think about it like that.
Why do shareholders need to do this anyway? We all know that Cook will be the “replacement” for Jobs when the time is right. They have made a ton of money off of AAPL and will continue to do so. I hope the most influential man in tech history makes fools of them and makes a return.

I always vote as they tell me to. Sounds lemming-ish, but I look at it this way: they’ve made me a boat load of money so far, they seem to know what they’re doing, and if they ask me to keep it that way, I don’t see why not. Until they start losing me money, I give them the reigns.
I think Apple’s data center in North Carolina was built to house a virtual Jobs. 😛
