We knew that HP was going to have a competitor to Apple’s market-leading iPad, but until now specifics of the tablet were not available.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]According to a source at HP that spoke with FoxNews.com’s Clayton Morris, HP’s “TouchPad” will feature Flash support; Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon support by the end of the year; Unlimited cloud storage for a new music store; an eight hour battery; and the device will weigh-in at 1.5 pounds.
While the devices are currently being called “TouchPad,” that’s not what they will be called by the time they hit the market. Morris said the prototypes still have the palmPad name on them.
Morris also said that other names being considered for HP’s tablet include TouchSlate, TouchCanvas and DuoPad.
HP is expected to announce its tablet at an event in February.

Oh yeah, Apple’s shaking in their boots with that. Flash. Who’d have thought it was possible? Eight hours! Wow Apple could never match that – unless you were to hang some kind of battery-draining peripheral off an iPad.
And all of that, by the end of the year! About four months before the iPad 3 is released. No doubt Apple is burning the midnight oil…
Ignoring for a second that this is still vaporware and unconfirmed:
With HP’s money, expertise and ‘supply chain fu’ and Palm’s know-how, these specs seem achievable to me. I bet they’ll even be able to price it competitively.
I have high hopes for this device, because it could mean some competition for Apple, which is always good.
What makes me think that HP might actually have a chance, is the fact that they gave thought to what the ecosystem surrounding it’s upcoming device needs to provide, to be a able to convince people of foregoing Apple’s comfy-looking golden cage.
Eight hour life using Flash? If it turns out to be 8h OR Flash, will the press tear them apart like they would if Apple authored such an apparent bait and switch?
What I want to say is the ipad 2 is coming around us.
No matter what iPad 2 will be like, but we can sure that it will be better than the first generation, we have to do is waiting and waiting for its final appearance!

iPad sales very successfully this year, but the next iPad may not have such a smooth trip as which will meet a lot of competitors such galaxy Tab, Playbook,Motopad. but I am still expect the new iPad will bring a big surprise for us iPad users. I believe the battery life will be eight hours or Flash, unless they got Adobe to make a specialised version just for their devices.
And no, the press will only see that it supports Flash.
