The Dalrymple Report: Steve Jobs, Katie Cotton, and Warren Buffett

The Steve Jobs Archive published a book called, “Make Something Wonderful, Steve Jobs in his own words.” Dave and I talk about some of the detail in the book, including some information from Disney CEO, Bob Iger. For years, Katie Cotton was Steve’s right hand person at Apple. Sadly this week, Katie passed away. I worked with Katie for years, and later she became a great friend. I will miss her.

The Dalrymple Report: Macs, Tim Cook, and Face ID

Apple has reportedly halted production of its M2 chips as Mac, and the general PC industry, slowed considerably in the first quarter of 2023. GQ did an indepth interview with Tim Cook covering everything from his morning routine and reading emails from customers to his thoughts on Google Glass and that industry. The iPhone 17 may debut under-display Face ID which would change the entire design of future iPhones.

Apple announced WWDC this week. The annual event takes place in June as it always does with an event in Cupertino and the rest being held online. One product we might get a glimpse of is Apple Goggles or Glasses, whatever you want to call them. Of course there will be lots of information about the new operating systems for all of the company’s products. Dave and I also look at the recently released Apple Music Classical app.

Apple is rumored to be working on a search engine to rival Google. While competition is good, it seems like a steep hill for Apple to climb because its search isn’t exactly very good. Apple was bidding for the NFL Sunday Ticket, but pulled out of the bidding at the last minute, which saw the NFL package go to rival YouTube. Have you ever thought about getting a foldable phone? The Dalrymple Report: Apple Music Sing fun, iOS 16.2, and App Stores

Apple will hold it’s anual event on September 7 in Cupertino, the company announced. There is little doubt we will see a new iPhone at the event, but we could see a few other products too. Regardless of what else is announced, Appple will want to the focus on iPhone. What happens when you take pictures of your naked toddler for your doctor and those pictures get uploaded to the cloud. One unfortunate father found out. Dave and I are back talking about how useless Siri is, this time with setting timers—now it can’t even do that reliably.

Apple announced that its showed have been nominated for 52 Emmy Awards with Ted Lasso leading the way. One of its new shows, Severance, also had a good showing with 14 nominations. Apple is rumored to be in the lead to take over broadcasting rights for the NFL and could also be looking at the UEFA Champions League in Europe. There are new rumors of an Apple Watch Pro—Dave and I take a look at that and what it could mean for users.

The Dalrymple Report: Heart rate, MacBook Air M2, Lockdown Mode

Dave had a bit of a scare this week when his Apple Watch alerted him to a low heart rate. We talk a bit about that and the Apple Watch. Apple’s newly introduced MacBook Air M2 is available to order on Friday, and Apple released new betas of its operating systems. One of the new features is called Lockdown Mode which allows users that need it to further secure their iPhones.

The Dalrymple Report: Google’s payment to Apple, and Samsung

Google paid Apple around $10 billion in 2020 to have it as the default search engine on Apple devices. That is expected to go up to $15 billion in 2021, and even higher in years to come. Samsung had an interesting week with its ability to block stolen TVs and having a flight evacuated after one of its phones ignites. Dave and I also sprinkle in some follow-up items from last week’s show.
