∞ OpenFeint boss downplays Game Center threat

OpenFeint is one of several game-oriented social networks for iOS devices. With Apple’s Game Center now on the scene, is OpenFeint’s popularity diminished? The answer is no, according to company chairman Peter Relan. The secret to OpenFeint’s continued success is that it coexists with Game Center instead of competing with it.

“We have successfully moved above the Apple stack,” Relan said, meaning that OpenFeint is a platform that sits on top of Apple’s platform.  “We are very pleasantly surprised. The beauty of achieving scale (a lot of momentum) is the market decides. Not you, not me, not Apple. Rumors of Apple Game Center hurting OpenFeint are greatly exaggerated.”

MacTech Labs has put Microsoft Office 2011 – the latest incarnation of Microsoft’s productivity app suite for the Mac – through its paces and has published the results on its Web site and in its print publication. The results are spread over six pages, so there’s a lot of detail to review. But ultimately (and with a few exceptions) the results suggest that Office 2011 gains some significant performance boost over both 2008 and 2004 running on the same hardware.

“All of these items give users a great deal more ‘user speed’…and those are not the type of things that can be measured with a stopwatch. However, in many cases, you will see significant ‘user speed’ improvements, regardless.”
