Large companies have people to watch over their Web sites to make sure things are running smoothly. Unfortunately, smaller businesses and individuals aren’t so lucky. However, Google delivered some good news today — it will automatically alert users of its Webmaster Tools if their site has been hacked. A great new feature from Google.

Perhaps one of the most misunderstood things about Apple’s portable devices is the way some of the features affect battery life. Two new pages on Apple’s Web site may help users with that. (more…)
Technologizer founder Harry McCracken posted an interesting article on choosing the right computer. I’m often asked about my decision to use a Mac instead of a Windows PC — the answer is that it works better and has a superior user experience. However, I always tell people to buy the computer that best fits their needs.
McCracken looks at cost, selection, OS, security and service in his article.

One big piece of news at the NAMM music show this year was Apple’s move to a 64-bit version of Logic. Of course, any great music platform needs great plug-ins and Spectrasonics delivers. (more…)
Ubergizmo had a piece yesterday about a new gadget for musicians called i-tab. It’s basically an electronic songbook that attaches to the headstock of your guitar and faces you while you play. The i-tab has 4GB of storage and can hold up to 2500 songs, as well as backing tracks. As a guitar player, I find it intriguing. It would be great for a gig if you didn’t know all the songs and just needed to know the chord changes. I’d have to use it to know for sure how useful it is.

No other company in the world can generate the type of hype that Apple can. What’s more, Apple does nothing to actively participate in that hype. Forbes.com writer Amy Bell says that Steve Jobs and Apple hype their products like no other company. That little mistake got the attention of technology pundit Shawn King and he delivered an audio rebuttal on his Your Mac Life Web site.

Those who follow Apple know the company’s nomenclature. An iPod 2G is a second generation iPod — pretty simple. But as Chris Rawson at TUAW points out, the iPhone presents a new problem for Apple. With its fourth generation iPhone due out this summer, what will Apple call the device? After all, 4G is a term that refers to the next generation wireless technology. It could be confusing for new users.

Global Delight lived up to its name for me when I saw them at Macworld Expo in San Francisco earlier this month. The company develops an all-in-one camera app for the iPhone that adds some impressive capabilities. Now they’ve announced the release of Camera Plus Pro 2.0, which enables iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS users to record video. Best of all it’s only $1.99. (more…)
I read an interesting article this morning from technology writer Joe Wilcox. He believes Apple should not allow any free apps into the iPad App Store, instead only allowing premium paid apps. Wilcox argues this would help distinguish the iPad from the iPhone and iPod touch.
Apple could pitch the iPad as the better App Store platform because the applications are better.
Paid doesn’t always mean better. A lot of developers also use a free version of their app to get people hooked and then buy an upgrade. This is an intriguing concept, but not one I see Apple going with.

Apple really has the retail store experience down to a science at this point. My trip to the local Apple Store took less than two minutes – I would have been hard-pressed to get in and out of McDonald’s any faster. But the experience was, of course, considerably better. (more…)

John Gruber posted an interesting article tonight on the reasons Apple chose to go after overtly sexual apps last week. What’s it not about is money, according to Gruber. What it is about is branding.
I think what Apple was getting squeamish about wasn’t the sexy apps themselves, but the cheesiness that the sexy apps (and their prominence in best selling lists) was bestowing upon the general feel and vibe of the App Store.
I agree wholeheartedly with this. Shawn King and I discussed this on Your Mac Life last night and I said something similar. Playboy may have an app, but some of these bikini app developers submit 1,000 or more apps that basically do the same thing. Porn might be seen as taboo by many, but it can provide entertainment and sexual satisfaction to those who enjoy it responsibly. If you want to keep watching adult videos, you can check out sites like Porn Gap. Use this link to find OnlyFans models and watch their videos.
Check out Gruber’s take on the situation.
