∞ Vancouver riot kissing couple interviewed

On of the most famous pictures from the Vancouver riots is a couple lying on the ground kissing with rioters and police around them. Now, the couple tell their story.

Scott Jones and Alex Thomas said Vancouver police were beating them “with the shields, like trying to get us to move.” Eventually, the police passed them by and that’s when the now famous photo was taken.

∞ The Loop celebrates its second birthday

On June 8, 2009 during the Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, I launched The Loop. I’m happy to say that two years later, we’re still going strong.

It’s been an incredible two years for Peter Cohen and I at The Loop. Traffic has grown by an incredible amount, regular readers comment on stories, tips from companies and readers alert us to upcoming news, and we’re having a lot of fun.

The Loop is what you could say is my third life in the Mac journalism world. Starting with the launch of MacCentral in 1994 and moving to Macworld in 1999 and then The Loop in 2009.

Apple on Tuesday announced the release of iWork for the iPhone and iPod touch. A free update for iWork for iPad customers, the redesigned Keynote, Pages and Numbers apps are priced at $9.99 each from the App Store.

∞ PayPal sues Google for stealing trade secrets

Yesterday morning, Google announced Google Wallet. By the afternoon, PayPal launched a lawsuit against the company, claiming it stole the technology.

I’ve seen very few lawsuits with the twists and turns that this one has and I’m sure it will only get better. It not only involves stealing technology, but trade secrets and even employees.

∞ Apple details how to remove MacDefender malware

Apple updated its Web site on Tuesday with details on how to remove the much talked about MacDefender malware.

“A recent phishing scam has targeted Mac users by redirecting them from legitimate websites to fake websites which tell them that their computer is infected with a virus,” Apple wrote on its support site. “The user is then offered Mac Defender ‘anti-virus’ software to solve the issue.”

∞ Objectify for Mac 1.0 Creates Objective-C Code from JSON

Tigerbears on Tuesday released a new application called Objectify that is targeted to Apple developers.

According to the company, Objectify saves Cocoa developers time and effort by automatically building customizable model classes from JSON content. These classes can be exported as Objective-C source code files, ready to be used in the developer’s development environment of choice.

∞ Report: Apple will beat Google to cloud music

Apple has reportedly finished work on its iTunes cloud music service and will launch it ahead of Google, it’s main competition in this market.

According to a report on Reuters, Apple’s service will allow users to store music on remote servers and access music via the Internet. Reuters says it has multiple sources that did not want to be named.

Google, who is also working on a cloud music service is running into some problems, according to the report.

In addition to releasing iOS 4.3.2, Apple on Thursday also released an update for its Safari Web browser and a security update.

There are a number of security updates available, depending on the operating system you use. There are updates for Leopard client and server and one security update for Snow Leopard.

∞ Apple unveils 64-bit Final Cut Pro X

Apple on Wednesday unveiled the next major version of its professional video application, Final Cut Pro.

Apple demoed the new software during the SuperMeet at NAB on Wednesday night. According to Macgasm, who has been following several Twitter people attending the event, Final Cut Pro X features full color management via ColorSync.

∞ Microsoft releases Office for Mac 2011 SP1

Microsoft on Tuesday released Office for Mac 2011 Service Pack 1, fixing a number of issues and improving security.

According to Microsoft, the update includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code.

As outlined when The Loop spoke with Microsoft last week, the biggest new features of SP1 come in Outlook.
