59% are concerned that Facebook will destroy the simple and elegant Instagram user experience as Facebook begins to integrate the photo service with its platform. 73% think that Twitter as the new Instagram owner would be taken better care of the Instagram users.
TidBITS:
AT&T offers a way to report unwanted SMS/MMS messages, but I had to ask on Twitter for the instructions, as the steps are not obvious to those of us who don’t use SMS/MMS regularly. The free AT&T Mark the Spot app for reporting bad cell coverage or calls also includes a button for reporting SMS spam that explains, with too little detail, how to do it.Here are the steps for AT&T; I’ll add other carriers as I receive information, as AT&T is the only carrier I have an account with.
As everyone points out, this is an increasingly annoying issue that infuriates customers.
John Gruber:
I agree with one thing: sustaining high profit margins is difficult. But where Denninger goes wrong is in assuming that competitors can easily or quickly copy what Apple is doing.
Copying the look of a piece of hardware is one thing, but copying the experience that Apple delivers is almost impossible.
April is Autism Awareness Month and while more children than ever are being diagnosed with Autism, many are finding a bit of relief by using some form of modern technology like Apple’s iPad. […]
Under questioning from Oracle’s lawyer, Page said Android was very important but disputed the notion that it was critical.
That makes sense. Usually things you steal aren’t considered critical.
Since it’s almost National Parks Week in the US(April 21-29), we’re seeing some iOS apps offered for free that normally have a cost to them. I’ve already mentioned the Chimani series of National Parks guides, and now I want to call your attention to Fotopedia National Parks, a universal iOS app that contains almost 3000 superb images taken by renowned photographer Quang-Tuan Luong. This app is not a detailed guide to the National Parks, but rather the equivalent of a coffee table book filled with dazzling photographs.
This app is two of my favorite things – free and about National Parks.
The fully immersive Multi-Touch edition of “George Harrison: Living in the Material World” brings the book alive with audio from Harrison himself, as well as from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, and other personal and professional friends. This elegant … Continued

Research In Motion is considering hiring a financial adviser to weigh its strategic options, Bloomberg News said on Monday, citing three sources with knowledge of the matter.
Here’s a better idea — how about hiring designers or a CEO that knows what he’s doing.
Cards includes a few new categories and templates, including one for Mother’s Day.
Dedicated runners keep a detailed log of all of their runs. But keeping a running journal can be tedious. You have to enter data like route names and distances over and over. LogMyRun for iPhone streamlines the process and eliminates the tedium. LogMyRun also makes it easy to share your runs with your teammates and friends via email and Twitter.

Jeff Scott: The lack of an ability to download previously paid for digital goods, in the case an app, is the real problem. In the world of digital distribution, one where we are moving to a cloud-based backend and a … Continued
AppleInsider:
The Finnish handset maker had previously told investors it expected to break even on device sales during the quarter, but its operating margins proved to be around negative 3 percent. Nokia now expects its second quarter of 2012 to be similar to or below the first quarter.
A drop dead simple utility for any New Yorker. You tell the little robot, (we call him Metro for short) how much money you have on your metrocard, he spits back out you what you need to put on it to get an even fare.
A simple utility, but I can see how useful this would be.
Kyle Baxter on why he made Basil:
Simple: I love to cook, but couldn’t find the app I wanted, so I built it.
To me this is the perfect reason to build an app. You love to do something, but can’t find the perfect app to do it.
Wall Street Journal:
The nation’s major wireless providers have agreed to a deal with the U.S. government to build a central database of stolen cellphones—part of a broad effort to tame an explosion of thefts nationwide. The database, which the wireless companies will build and maintain, will be designed to track phones that are reported as lost or stolen and deny them voice and data service. The idea is to reduce crime by making it difficult or impossible to actually use a stolen device, reducing resale value.
Remember back in the day (last week) when RIM’s Vice President of Developer Relations Alec Saunders said the company was removing sideloading from the PlayBook.
Surprise, no they’re not.
My favorite rock bassist, Megadeth’s David Ellefson, released a new app for iPhone and iPad on Tuesday. […]
Alan Brenner, a senior vice president for the BlackBerry platform, will leave after a transition period, and Alistair Mitchell, a vice president for the BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging product, has already left, RIM spokeswoman Tenille Kennedy said in an email on Friday.
It just keeps getting worse.
However, I found that I can create, update and list notes with Siri. In fact, Siri is even smart enough to know which note you’re talking about. Here’s how to create and maintain notes with Siri.
I didn’t know you could do that.

AppleInsider:
After hearing Page’s interpretation of Jobs’s words, Isaacson spoke out this week in a speech at the Royal institution of Great Britain. Isaacson said he felt that Android had ripped off many of his ideas found in the iPhone and iPad, and that his ire was very real, according to Macworld.“It’s almost copied verbatim by Android,” Isaacson said. “And they license it around promiscuously. And then Android starts surpassing Apple in market share, and this totally infuriated him. It wasn’t a matter of money. He said, ‘You can’t pay me off, I’m here to destroy you.'”
It’s time for Google to shut up.
John Gruber:
The sliding camera button on the iOS 5.1 home screen is a perfect example of Apple favoring obviousness over simplicity and even elegance.
Chris Armstrong:
There’s been a lot of concern raised recently about Apple’s use of the term “4G” to describe the cellular connectivity in the new iPad. There seems to be some confusion. I decided I’d try to make sense of it.
So why didn’t Nokia pack the phone with the newest processor, best display, and more storage? I think it all comes down to price.
There is a place for low-end smartphones, but I don’t think people want shit products.
Chris Sauve:
iOS 5 captured approximately 75% of all iOS users in the same amount of time it took Gingerbread to get 4% of all Android users. Even more astounding is that 15 weeks after launch iOS 4 was at 70% and iOS 5 was at 60% while Ice Cream Sandwich got to just 1% share at the same age. If there were any question as to whether iOS had a less fragmented ecosystem than Android, the past two charts provide a fairly definitive answer.
But Android is winning.
Erica Ogg for GigaOM:
Snapguide and Paper have two things in common. Both appeal to the creative side of mobile users, and both are themselves beautifully made and deceptively simple to use.I think it’s these qualities that are going to provide a roadmap for more iOS apps to come that will appeal to the artsy, creative side of people, rather than the traditional consumption-oriented theme of what have so far been the most popular types of apps on Apple’s platform.
Absolutely right. We’ve gone through several of these waves of apps from productivity to games and every time developers start to push the envelope of what can be done, we get another one. Creativity looks to be the wave.
Mark Hattersley for Macworld UK:
BlackBerry’s woes continue after a celebrity party, thrown by the company last night to celebrate BBM, ended in a vicious stabbing that forced police to lock celebrities inside the club and BlackBerry to cancel the event.
I could make a joke like maybe someone threw an iPhone into the crowd, but out of respect for the person that was injured, I won’t.
Om Malik:
The non iOS devices for me are purely for academic purposes and to keep up with the devices, trends and apps.
And there you have it in one neat sentence.
