I am a big fan of Monument Valley. When I came across Luke Dormehl’s review of Mekorama, I had high hopes. I downloaded the game, gave it a whirl, was not disappointed.
iOS
Living with Gboard
I think Gboard is brilliant and it is now my default iOS keyboard. Here’s why.
Google’s GBoard for iOS adds search right into your keyboard
A very clever idea from Google, a keyboard plugin that brings search right to the keyboard in any app. Watch the embedded video to see this for yourself.
App Store search back up and running
Yesterday, searches on the iOS, Mac, and iBook App Stores were failing. Looks like the problem has been resolved. The tests I ran yesterday are now showing their proper results.
App Store search is currently broken
Craig Grannell:
Developer Travis Ryan just noted to me on Twitter that App Store search is broken. Presumably, this is a temporary glitch, but it’s frustrating for developers. In Ryan’s case, a search for Dashy Crashy doesn’t bring up his excellent game of the same name. All you get is Dashy Crashy Bird, a one-thumb sort-of Flappy Bird clone.
Try searching yourself.
How to tell what direction you are facing, share your location in Maps

Federico Viticci’s incredible iOS 10 concept video
[VIDEO] I absolutely love this piece. Take a minute to watch the video, embedded below. Federico and Sam Beckett did an amazing job visualizing iOS elements that do not exist in real life, making them seem as if they did exist. Incredible.
The continuing problem with iOS copy and paste
Yesterday we wrote about Kirk McElhearn’s bug daylighting column, “Hey Apple, fix this!”. Rene Ritchie from iMore also has a bug daylighting column called Bug Fix. One particular bug that I’m experiencing is glitchy copy and paste.

How to improve your Touch ID finger recognition
Have you ever had trouble getting Touch ID to recognize your fingerprint? Happens to me when I am sweaty from working out. My guess is, the moisture plays havoc with the sensors. The video embedded in the main post walks you through two potential solutions.
Hey Apple, fix this!
Kirk McElhearn has a new column out, daylighting a major Mac or iOS flaw, with a goal of getting Apple to fix it. I love the idea and propose one issue that could use some daylighting.

Official Reddit iOS app live in the App Store
The app is well designed and a huge improvement on the raw Safari Reddit experience.
Apple’s copycats are turning into true iPhone competitors
Vlad Savov, writing for The Verge:
The copying of Apple has evolved. It’s less literal now, as companies strive to recreate the essence of Apple’s success, whether it be through vertical integration (as with Huawei and its in-house processor design), positive brand associations, or simple aesthetic and tactile appeal. Apple is still the Michael Jordan that every Chinese smartphone manufacturer looks up to, but instead of trying to dunk with their tongues sticking out or shoot fadeaway jumpers, these rising stars are developing their own ways of scoring points with consumers. Instead of imitating, they are emulating.
Should Apple be concerned?
Apple fixes Siri bug allowing access to Photos and Contacts on locked device
If you weren’t paying attention, you may have missed this bug’s arrival and departure entirely. Interesting that Apple was able to fix this server-side. That is, Apple fixed Siri on their end, without you having to install an update.

Rent a movie, instantly free up space on your iOS device
Mac Kung Fu:
Renting a title larger than the remaining capacity on your device forces iOS to use a hitherto undisclosed clean-up routine, thereby freeing-up space. Even if the download is way too big, it’ll still try to free-up space.
This cleaning technique has been around for quite some time.
Latest iOS 9.3 update breaking links for many users
Benjamin Mayo, writing for 9to5Mac:
Readers are reporting a strange bug with iOS 9.3 (and older versions apparently, exact characteristics of affected devices is unclear), primarily affecting the latest Apple devices, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The issue has also been reported on older phones and some iPad models as well. The cause is unknown, but many users are finding themselves unable to open links in Safari, Messages, Mail, Notes and other apps. Instead of visiting the target website, the app crashes, freezes or hangs.

A nice trick to quickly flip between two iPhone brightness settings
There are other ways to change your iPhone screen brightness, but this one uses a triple-tap on the home button (via Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom) to toggle between day and night brightness settings.
Even if you have no need for this particular tweak, worth watching, since you can use this approach to tie other settings to the triple click.
