Apple’s AirPods may be one of the hottest iPhone accessories you can buy right now, but they aren’t just made for listening to music. You can activate a feature called “Live Listen,” which lets you use AirPods to amplify sound, allowing them to double as basic hearing aids.
The AirPods Live Listen feature uses the microphone on your iPhone and then pipes the audio right into your AirPods. So, if you’re hard of hearing, instead of asking someone to speak up or sitting out of a conversation entirely, you can put your iPhone on a table — or even hold it close to someone’s mouth — and the AirPods will amplify what’s being said.
I don’t have AirPods and didn’t know about this feature. Sounds interesting.
To be honest, AirPods are cheaper than hearing aids 😉 To get the best hearing aids, it can be up to $3k – $5k.
My cochlear implants are approx $8k each.
For an Apple blog with pretty big connections, I am shocked its writers don’t have one of their most beloved products in years, and have not heard of this feature featured in many articles on the Apple sites. I mean, I read the blog to find out more about Apple stuff, not the other way around…
Air Pods are too expensive for me and my (admittedly limited) use case. I rarely ever use headphones to listen to music (I work from home). Only other time I would listen to music via earbuds is on my motorcycle. I don’t know that AirPods would work under a helmet. 🙂
I hope you don’t expect/think that we all must buy everything Apple makes before we post stories about those products. That simply wouldn’t be possible.
