Here’s something I’m sure is going to be on the gift lists of a lot of iOS users: the Helo TC, from Griffin Technology, that long-time maker of peripherals and accessories for Apple devices. It costs $49.99 and is now available at Griffin’s Web site; the company expects to have it stocked in retailers nationwide for the holiday season.
The Helo TC is a twin-rotor remote control model helicopter designed to be used indoors. An infrared module included with the device connects to an iPod touch, iPhone or iPad, and a downloadable app lets you transmit control signals using your iOS device.
The Helo TC either uses touch controls or “Tilt to Steer” mode, in which input from the iOS device’s accelerometers tell the helo to move back and forth and side to side. You can store up to three “Flight Plans” so you can repeat favorite patterns. The Helo TC can be set to operate on one of three different channels, so you and two friends can fly three at a time.
The Helo TC operates using a built-in battery that recharges from the USB port on your Mac. The Flight Deck module – the device that connects to your iOS device – works using four AAA batteries and plugs into the iOS device’s headphone jack.
