<a href=http://www.garmin.com” target=”_blank”>Garmin Ltd. on Tuesday announced the completion of its acquisition of Navigon AG, the company behind its eponymous turn-by-turn navigation software for the iPhone.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]In June Garmin and Navigon announced acquisition plans. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Garmin indicated at the time of the original announcement that its draw to Navigon included the company’s relative strength in the European market (Navigon is based in Germany – Garmin is based in Switzerland and has subsidiaries in the US, Taiwan and the UK). That was reiterated on Tuesday in a statement from Garmin chairman and COO Cliff Pemble.
“We are looking forward to expanding our ability to serve our collective customers going forward,” said Pemble.
Navigon board member Egon Minar indicated that his company – which will operate as a subsidiary of Garmin – has “an innovative new product lineup” expected for the holiday 2011 season and beyond.
