Market research firm comScore on Friday released its latest report detailing mobile market share in the U.S. It’s good news for Apple, but continued bad news for RIM.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]According to the survey that included more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers, Apple has overtaken RIM to land the third spot in U.S. mobile subscribers. That gives Apple an 8.3 percent share, up from 7.0 percent in January. RIM fell 0.4 points to 8.2 percent.
Leading the group of manufacturers is Samsung (24.5%), LG (20.9%) and Motorola (15.6%).
The story looks much the same when you look at the top smartphone platforms. Apple rose 1.3 points to 26 percent, taking second place behind Google, finishing first with 36.4 percent. It’s important to remember these numbers count Android on all smartphones, but don’t include all uses of iOS.
RIM fell 4.7 points to finish third with 25.7 percent, followed by Microsoft (6.7%), and Palm (2.6%).
According to the study, 74.6 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending April 2011, the period studied for this report. That’s up 13 percent from the the three months ending in January 2011.
