∞ FileMaker Go adds signature capture, charts

FileMaker on Wednesday announced an update to FileMaker Go, its iOS companion for its popular database for Mac OS X and Windows. The new 1.2 release is a free update from the App Store; it costs $19.99 for the iPhone version and $39.99 for the iPad version.

It’s aimed at mobile users who need access to information hosted through FileMaker Server or FileMaker Pro – it works over local wireless networks and the Internet, and it instant updates data in the host file. You can also copy databases between the host computer and FileMaker Go using iTunes-based File Sharing, then reconciling them at the next synchronization.

The new 1.2 release adds support for FileMaker Charts, so FileMaker Go users can create bar, line, area and pie charts. Data can be passed through FileMaker Pro or SQL sources. Also new is the ability to capture digital signatures, handy for verifying the receipt of products, field surveys and other situations where a digital signature capture is required. Digital signatures can be exported to the desktop or uploaded instantly to FileMaker Server-hosted databases.

FileMaker Go 1.2 also supports AirPrint, a relatively new feature in iOS that enables apps to print data to supported printers. And finally, PDF creation has been enhanced; users can now save and e-mail PDF files.
