Karelia Software has posted a Web page to give users just a taste of what’s coming with Sandvox 2, a new version of its visual Web site creation software for regular people.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]In an e-mail sent to subscribers of the Karelia mailing list, developers Dan Wood and Terrence Talbot explained that they’re taking cues from Apple’s iWork application software suite – a logical progression, as iLife was the inspiration for Sandvox 1 (Sandvox was in development before Apple introduced iWeb, its own simple Web site creation software).
“If you have used these tools, you’ll see what we mean once you start working with Sandvox 2,” said the developers.
Sandvox 2 emphasizes improved flexibility, with direct manipulation of elements on the page – similar to the way that Apple’s Pages software enables you to easily reflow words and text by dragging them into place. The concept of page “types” in Sandvox 1 is gone, and in its place, you just place objects in pages instead.
Pricing is yet to be announced, but Karelia indicated that newsletter subscribers will get a special break. The new release is still “several weeks away from launch,” according to Karelia.
