If true, a new report on Tuesday could shake-up the mobile app wars a little bit as one analyst suggests RIM may allow Android apps to run on its PlayBook tablet.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]Citing a note to client from Gleacher & Company analyst Mark McKechnie, Fortune reports that RIM may build the functionality into its QNX-powered PlayBook tablet. However, as the report points out, Google may be more interested in the longterm advertising revenue than app revenue.
Calling the move a “huge win if it worked properly,” McKechnie hedged his bets saying that he is still skeptical because of compatibility issues associated with making a layer to have apps work to another platform.
The chances of having problems with a compatibility layer are pretty significant, although it has been done before.
