Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak caused a flurry of speculation yesterday as he revealed that Apple had purchased speech recognition software company, Nuance.
[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]As it turns out, Woz was wrong. “I thought I’d read about it but obviously got it all wrong,” Wozniak told Reuters in an e-mail.
One possible explanation for the mixup is that Woz was thinking about Siri, which Apple did buy in April 2010.
Woz’s remarks were posted in a video interview by TVDeck.com last night. The video quickly went viral leading Woz to correct the mistake today.
Woz’s error drove up Nuance’s stock 3.7 percent in under a day. That pushed the company’s market cap up by $600 million over Monday’s close.
