Apple indicated plans to discontinue the Xserve on Friday. By coincidence, Rob Griffiths was on the ground in Los Angeles, attending the first MacTech Conference – a Mac IT-oriented event in Los Angeles (The Loop is a media sponsor of the event). Griffiths reports on the crowd’s reaction to the news.
I was expecting the crowd’s mood to be highly negative, but that wasn’t necessarily the response. Sure, there were a fair number of people who were upset, but there was also a sense that Apple realized they hadn’t really won a spot in the server rooms of the world, and hence, the Xserve’s departure was somewhat expected.
