Sprint announced Monday that it will begin selling the Palm Pixi in the U.S. on Nov. 15. This expands Palm’s WebOS product line, positioned squarely against Apple’s popular iPhone.
The Palm Pixi will cost Sprint customers $99.99 for new subscribers who agree to a two-year service contract, after $50 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate. That’s less than the Pre, and after rebates, the same AT&T customers can expect to pay for an iPhone 3G.
The second smartphone from Palm to feature WebOS, the Pixi is smaller than the Pre. It features a multitouch display that enables users to employ gestures to navigate and interact with on-screen information. A built-in QWERTY keyboard rests below the display, a different configuration than the Pre, whose display slides to reveal a keyboard underneath.
Palm touts the Pixi’s ability to link information from Google, Facebook, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and LinkedIn, as well as Yahoo. “Palm Synergy” combines messaging, layers calendars, and contact linking.
Combined voice and data plans for the Pixi are priced starting at $69.99.
