Watch this robot walk, maintain balance on two legs

This is incredible work. Jump to about 2:23 in and watch Cassie maintain its balance when pushed side to side. This is an incredibly difficult problem to solve.

  1. It’s pretty obviously got a knock-kneed/pigeon-toed problem. It seems like they haven’t even considered lateral stability and strength. It doesn’t appear to have working hip joints for example and it seems to me that it will never walk properly (or more importantly run) without them. I would say this is still at least five to ten years away from a production model at the very best.
